Nashville --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team has played hard and shown improvement in each match this season but the Tigers have yet to get in the win column. TSU dropped three sets to Lipscomb Tuesday night in Allen Arena.

The set scores were 25-10, 25-19 and 25-21.

Tennessee State (0-5) totaled 20 kills and hit -.046  in the contest while Lipscomb (5-2) turned in 35 kills and a .312 hitting percentage.

Shaquita Williams led the Tigers with six kills while Kamille King added a team best eight digs. Erika Moss tallied 17 assists.

Alex Kelly, the only player to post double-digits in kills, led Lipscomb with 10. Kelly also had 10 digs along with Caitlin Dotson.

Five straight errors led to TSU falling behind 5-1 in the opening set. The Lady Bisons stretched their lead to 7-2 before the Tigers used a timeout to regroup. LU, however, answered with a 4-0 run to increase the advantage to 11-2.

A kill and service ace from Vicmari Prospero sparked a small run for the Tigers, cutting the deficit down to 13-8 but Lipscomb scored the next seven points and maintained control the rest of the set.

The teams traded points in the tightly played second set. Neither team was able to build more than a two-point lead until Lipscomb capitalized on a couple of TSU miscues and took a 15-12 lead. Although, the Tigers rallied towards the end, the Lady Bisons never trailed again in the set again.

The Tigers seemed rejuvenated in the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before back-to-back service aces from Shaquita Williams gave TSU a 7-1 cushion. TSU was leading 8-1 when LU used an 8-2 run to come within one, 10-9.

TSU scored the next four points to make the score, 14-9, but five unanswered points from LU tied the set, 14-14, and forced a Tiger timeout.

The rest of the set was a battle as both teams went point-for-point. With the score knotted, 21-21, the momentum shifted towards Lipscomb. The Lady Bisons posted four straight points to close out the set and secure the win.

"I feel like we're fighting better," said head coach Kathy Roulhac. "Things have been a little tough early but we've been playing some good volleyball. Once we get our rhythm, I feel that we will be really competitive in the OVC."

TSU returns to action this weekend at the Memphis Invitational. Tournament participants include Air Force, LaSalle and host the University of Memphis.
