NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State volleyball finished the weekend off with a conference match against Austin Peay State University. The Tigers would drop a match to the Governors by a 3-0 score.
Outside hitters Chloe Watson and Arijana Anderson both contributed eight kills for TSU. Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus recorded double digit digs with 10 in the match. The Tigers had a .155 hitting percentage in the game. Samantha Beltran had 20 assists in the match.
TSU got off to a slow start against APSU in set one trailing 9-2. A timeout by the Tigers would be used to refocus. A 5-2 Tennessee State run changed the score to 11-7 in favor of Austin Peay. Trailing 21-14 Tennessee State took its second timeout of the set. A kill by the Governors would give them the win in frame number one 25-14.
Frame number two would start off with the Tigers down 5-0, before scoring four straight points. TSU would pull within one on a kill from Payten Clark. The score was 10-9 before APSU went on a five nothing run forcing Tennessee State to take a timeout down 15-9. The Governors would continue to build on their lead going up 21-11 before a Watson kill put an end to the APSU run. A block from Austin Peay ended the second stanza 25-14.
Tennessee State found themselves down 6-4 at the start of set three. A kill by Beltran put the Tigers down 7-5. The Tigers would go up 9-8 on a kill from Clark. A service error by TSU gave APSU a one point lead 12-11. After Austin Peay would increase its lead to 14-11 Tennessee State called a timeout. The Tigers would go on a run pushing the score to 17-15. A timeout would be used by TSU trailing 22-16. Consecutive kills from APSU would make the score 24-18. A service ace from Beltran made the score 24-20 before a TSU blocking error ended the match 25-20.
Christina White and Kaylee Taff recorded 11 kills each for Austin Peay.
