Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at Oklahoma State

FINAL STATS

Stillwater, Okla. --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball team fell to Big 12 member Oklahoma State, 86-48, Saturday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena.

TSU (0-2) was led in scoring by senior Jayda Johnson who finished the game with 13 points while sophomore Tiana Parker and freshman Kaliya Griffin also reached double-digits with 10 points each. Senior I'mani Davis had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Both teams began the game scorching hot from the field. TSU knocked down four of its first seven attempts but OSU was shooting 71 percent from the field and led 12-9 at the first media timeout.

Out of the break, the Cowgirls took control and outscored the Lady Tigers 9-2 to carry a 21-11 lead into the second quarter.

OSU scored the first five points of the second frame before TSU got on the board with a long jumper by Franceska Brown. Another scoring drought, however, saw the Lady Tigers fall behind by 20 points (33-13) with 4:52 left in the half.

TSU could not find an answer for its opponent and went into the locker room trailing, 46-23.

Despite the Lady Tigers' efforts, the Cowgirls continued to add on to their lead in the second half. By the start of the fourth quarter OSU had built a 68-33 advantage. The home team never looked back.

Tennessee State returns to action on Saturday, Nov.19 when the Lady Tigers host Arkansas State in the home opener. Game time is set for noon in the Gentry Center.
