NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State dropped the final game of the series to Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon. The Gamecocks used a no-hit performance by Whitney Gillespie to secure a five inning, 11-0, decision.
TSUs losing streak extends to 14 games as they fell to 7-29 on the season and 0-10 in Ohio Valley Conference play. JSU used the win to improve to 20-13 and10-0 in conference play.
Gillespie (6-1) walked two batters on the day, while fanning nine Tigers.
The Gamecocks offense used three, three-run home runs, to leave Tiger Field with the series sweep. Jamie McGuire was the first to leave the yard in the first inning. Emily Church and Leila Chambers hit consecutive three-run blasts in the fourth inning.
Emma Colegrove earned a walk to lead off the bottom of the third for the Tigers to eliminate the chance of a perfect game by the JSU hurler. Joselynn Yates registered the Tigers second walk of the game sh she led off the bottom of the fifth.
Lauren Woodard suffered the loss to fall to 2-16, as she surrendered three runs on three hits and a walk in working the first inning.
The Tigers will step out of OVC play on Thursday evening as they host Kennesaw State for a double header beginning at 4:00 p.m.
