CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Tennessee State volleyball lost for the sixth time in their last seven games.
The Tigers battled hard before eventually being swept on the opening day of the Scenic City Showdown. TSU (5-6) was led by Senior Chloe Watson offensively as she had her fourth double-double of the season. Watson had 10 kills and also contributed 13 digs. Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus led the team in digs with 14. Payten Clark added seven kills and five blocks on the day.
TSU started set one off with a 4-0 lead before Ole Miss (10-1) got their first point. Both teams went on runs which led to the Rebels taking a 23-20 lead. After a timeout the Tigers scored three straight points to tie the game at 23 apiece. A kill by the Rebels followed by a hitting error from TSU would end the first set.
A slow start in the second stanza would put the team in a bad predicament for the rest of the set. The Rebels went up by a 14-4 score to start off. The Tigers could not seem to find a rhythm offensively and made costly errors. Ole Miss would win set two by a score of 25-12.
The final set of the match would be similar to the first set as both teams would battle hard. TSU would go up 4-2 to start the third stanza. After a back and forth game Ole Miss would take 23-20 lead. Watson would get a timely kill before back to back kills from the Rebels ended the match.
The Tigers will look to rebound against Chattanooga and Appalachian State in Saturday's matches at 11:30 and 3:30 p.m. CDT.
