Volleyball Stumbles at Murray State

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State Tiger volleyball team 6-17, 2-8 OVC) closed the week against the Murray State Racers (15-7, 7-3 OVC) with a tough 3-0 loss (28-26, 25-21, 25-18).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

SET BY SET

First Set: TSU took the first point of the match with a Maya Evans kill. Rachel Henderson tried to put down the second ball, but was stopped with a Racer block. She went right back up and this time, it met the floor without a touch, starting a 5-0 Tiger run. With the new 6-2 offense, Megan Evans and Samantha Beltran each recorded seven assists. Tigers recorded a .116 attack percentage, three service aces and three blocks, Katora Roberts involved in each. Big Blue pushed the set into extra points, battling for each point. Racers took the first set 28-26.

Second Set: Two Racer errors got the Tigers off to a good start in the second set. Maya Evans had the first Tiger kill, followed by four-in-a-row for Katora Roberts. Tigers hit a .212, had 13 assists, 15 digs and a single block. Murray State's .278 hitting percentage edged the Tigers out of set two, 25-21.

Third Set: Samantha Beltran had a service ace that was followed by two Maya Evans kills and one by Rachel Henderson, who had four kills in set three. TSU had the lowest hitting percentage of the match with a .050, 10 kills of 40 attempts. Racers increased its hitting accuracy to .368 to win the set 25-18.

MATCH NOTES

  • TSU is now 2-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
  • The Tigers are 10-47 in the all-time series against Murray State.
