KENNESAW, Ga. --- Daniel Cummings drilled a corner three with 2.1 seconds left to force overtime and Tennessee State outscored Kennesaw State by an 8-5 margin in the extra period in the TSU men's basketball team's 77-74 road victory on Saturday night at the KSU Convocation Center.

Armani Chaney scored a career-high 20 points to lead four Tigers (3-2) in double figures. Chaney also dished out seven assists and did not turn the ball over on the night.

Chaney was joined in double figures by Delano Spencer with 14, Ken'Darrius Hamilton with 14 and Kamar McKnight with 10.

TSU led Kennesaw State (1-5) by 16 points in the first half and held a 32-26 halftime edge. KSU stormed back in the second half and took the lead. The game featured nine ties and eight lead changes.

Chaney had four points and three rebounds in the five-minute overtime session to lead TSU to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tennessee State took an early double-digit lead, pushing the score to 14-4 in favor of the Tigers on a Kamar McKnight jumper 5:30 into the game.
  • TSU's defense kept the Owls under 20 points until a pair of Nick Masterson free throws with 2:48 left in the first half.
  • Kennesaw State ended the first half on a 10-3 run to cut the TSU advantage down to 32-26 at halftime. McKnight led the Tigers with eight first-half points.
  • The Tigers committed just three turnovers in the first half. 
  • Kennesaw State exploded out of the gate in the second half, scoring the first 10 points of the half to take a 36-32 advantage.
  • TSU regained the lead at 37-36 on a three from Armani Chaney five minutes into the second half.
  • The game went back and forth in the second half as Kennesaw State took a three point lead in the final minute. Chaney answered for TSU with a three with 39.5 seconds left to level the score at 66-66.
  • Kennesaw State took a 68-66 lead on a dunk with 21.3 seconds left by Bryson Lockley and after a TSU turnover, Lockley hit a free throw with 10.6 seconds left for a three-point KSU edge.
  • On TSU's final possession of regulation, Chaney found Cummings open  for the game-tying three at 69-69.
  • In overtime, TSU took a five-point lead on a pair of Chaney free throws with 22 seconds left.
  • After a Kennesaw State layup and two missed free throws for TSU, the Tigers came up with a stop on the defensive end to preserve the 77-74 road victory.
