NASHVILLE
--- The Tennessee State softball team's seventh inning charge came up short, leading to a sweep by Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks claimed game one, 8-0 in five innings, before holding on in the night cap, 4-2.

After JSU took a 4-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning of game two, the contest came to halt as both squads sat through two lightning delays, lasting a total of an hour and 14 minutes. Once the game resumed, Raven Loveless recorded her fourth strikeout of the game to end the top of the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers started a two-out rally as Patton Akers was hit by a pitch. Junior Megan Huppee followed with a triple to right center to chase home Akers. Lauren Farias kept the inning alive with an infield single to plate pinch runner Kierra Ware, cutting the score to 4-2.

That's as close as the Tigers would get as Bri Vire grounded out to end the game. Loveless dropped to 8-11 as she was surrendered four runs on six hits and a walk. TSU finished the game with seven hits, one better than JSU.

The Gamecocks took the first game as the held the Big Blue to two base knocks. Vire finished 1-for-2, while Erica O'Kane went 1-for-1 with a walk.

Jessina Espinoza (1-5) took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, on seven hits and a walk. Katie Schneider pitched the final 2.1 innings and was touched for two runs, one earned, on three hits. Both pitchers fanned one batter.

Up Next: The Tigers will host their final home series of the season on Friday, Apr. 19 against Morehead State. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. at Tiger Field.
