GAMEDAY
The Tennessee State men's basketball team continues its home stand Thursday evening as it hosts SIU-Edwardsville for its seventh home game of the season. Tip on ESPN+ and the Big Blue Sports Network is set for 8p.m. in Gentry Center, following the Lady Tigers game.

A victory on Tuesday would mark the 30th win for head coach Brian "Penny" Collins.

LAST TIME OUT
Shakem Johnson led the Tigers with 18 points and Ravel Moody with a career-high nine rebounds in the 59-63 loss to Southeast Missouri (4-8 ,2-4) Tuesday night in the Gentry Center.
Despite three Tigers scoring double digits, the inaccuracy from beyond the arc, 1-of-13, and the charity stripe, 14-of-25, dashed their efforts in gaining another Ohio Valley Conference win.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
SIU-Edwardsville has struggled to take the court this season as its schedule reflects nine postponed games, all conference matchups, and one canceled. The last time the team has seen action was over a month ago against Morehead State, Dec. 18 on the road.
In just seven games, the Cougars found luck against Northern Illinois, Morehead State and University of Health Science and Pharmacy in St. Louis. On a one-game win streak, SIUE is looking to garner its second win in a row Thursday night against a two-win TSU team.
Sidney Wilson leads the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds and nine total assists and blocks. Mike Adewunmi also averages double-digits, 11.7 while grabbing 5.9 board a game.

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE COUGARS
Two trips to the charity stripe lifted the Tennessee State men's basketball team to its second Ohio Valley Conference win of 2020, 79-74 over SIU-Edwardsville at home.
With 2:29 left in the game and the Tigers down one after leading for 24:32 of the afternoon, freshman point guard Mark Freeman, who had served as the floor general dishing six assists to his team, took control of the ball and drove the lane for a three-point play to take the lead, 70-72. Too close for comfort, Freeman registered his final assist, passing the ball to Jy'lan Washington at the top of the key for a Tennessee State three. SIUE added just four more points, two free-throws and a jumper, falling short of its second OVC victory, 79-74.

SERIES BREAKDOWN
  • Big Blue is 9-4 in the all-time series against the Cougars.
  • Brian "Penny" Collins is 1-1 against SIUE.
  • The win over the cougars marked the first double-digit win season for Coach Collins and garnered the team the top spot in the league last season with a 10-5, 2-0 OVC.
  • TSU is 4-1 when playing SIUE in Nashville.
