Second-Half Comeback Not Enough in Loss to APSU

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --- At the end of a long second-half, the Austin Peay Governors walked away victorious over Tennessee State Saturday afternoon in the Dunn Center, 71-56.
 
A 16-point first half ultimately lost the game for Big Blue, forcing the Tigers into a 26-point deficit with only 20 minutes to recover. Mark Freeman and Ravel Moody led the Tigers with 16 points apiece, 14 scored in the second period when TSU outscored APSU 40-29.
 
Amorey Womack, redshirt freshman had a career game with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals off the bench.
 
Moving into week two of the Tigers' road swing, Big Blue is 3-12, 2-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After its first buckets, both teams went on an over three-minute scoring drought.
  • Redshirt freshman Amorey Womack made Big Blue's first basket after six minutes. The Govs worked their way to a 15-5 lead.
  • Another nine-point run for the Governors dropped the Tigers to a 16-point deficit.
  • Big Blue began to share the ball helping the team dig out of its scoring lull. Yusuf Mohamed continued the 890-game streak with a three from the top of the key.
  • At the buzzer, DJ Peavy pulled up from the corner to close out the first half, 42-16.  
  • Six-straight points for Mark Freeman to kick off the second period. Austin Peay scoreless with five minutes off the clock.
  • Outscoring the Govs, 18-9 35 minutes in, TSU went from 26 points down at the half to just 16.
  • An eight-point run facilitated by Moody and Freeman brought the score to 50-57. On the following play, Freeman committed his fifth foul of the night and what was only a seven-point lead turned into a ten-point deficit pretty quickly.
  • Peay closed out the final two minutes of the game with six free throws and another win over TSU, 71-56.
GAME NOTES
  • Mark Freeman fouled out with 16 points, four rebounds and 4:45 left in the game.
  • This marks the 81st meeting between Tennessee State and Austin Peay.
  • Brian "Penny" Collins is 1-5 against the Govs.
  • APSU leads the all-time series 50-31.
