Volleyball Hosts Belmont in Midweek Game

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State University volleyball team will host local OVC rival Belmont on Tuesday evening at Kean Hall. 

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

>>   Tennessee State is looking for a season split with Belmont after falling to the Bruins on September 21, a 3-1 loss on the road. The Tigers are seeking to snap a four-game losing streak in OVC play.

>>   TSU nearly swept defending OVC Champ Morehead State in three sets, but the Eagles forged a massive comeback en route to a five-set victor over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

>>   Senior Gina Rivera-Ortiz is second all-time in TSU history with 1,682 digs. She currently sits nine digs away from Catherine Armwood '06, who amassed 1,691 digs during her historic career with the Tigers. Rivera-Ortiz has already picked up a pair of OVC Setter of the Week awards earlier this season. Rivera-Ortiz finished the weekend with 50 digs against Morehead State. Rivera-Ortiz is third in the NCAA in digs per set (5.95).

>>   Senior Aniya Williams is fourth in the OVC averaging 4.20 points per set. Williams has 200 kills, 17 service aces, 72 total blocks and 61 assists.

SCOUTING THE BRUINS

>>  Belmont enters the week after a split with SIUE, taking Friday's contest, 3-1, before bowing out on Saturday, 3-1.

>>   Taylor Floyd leads the Bruins on the offensive side with 18 kills. Floyd is averaging 2.90 kills per set while hitting a team-best .197. Laura Shoopman is second in kills with 148.

>>   Rachel McBride has the team lead in digs with 239  and 4.35 digs per set. McBride is sixth in the OVC in digs per set and seventh in total digs.

>> Kailee Bass is ninth in the OVC in total blocks with 52 and blocks per set (0.95).
