Men's Basketball Welcomes Fisk for Home Opener

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's basketball team will take the floor at the Gentry Center, Tuesday night at 7:00p.m., against crosstown rival, Fisk University.
 
The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (0-2, 0-0 OVC) vs. Fisk Bulldogs (0-7, 0-0 GCAC)
Date/Time: Tuesday, November 16 || 7:00 p.m.
Location: Gentry Center || Nashville

Series History: TSU leads the series 20-3 and the Tigers have won the last 12 meetings, including the last two games by a combined margin of 86 points. In the 2019 contest, TSU won 99-65 as Carlos Marshall Jr. registered his first career double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. 
 
Last Time Out for TSU: The Tennessee State men's basketball team fell to Norfolk State, 66-59, in the Gateway HBCU Invitational. Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. dished out a career-high six assists while Marshall Jr. led the team with 17 points and a career-best four steals. Dedric Boyd logged 16 points as he went 4-for-8 from long range.
 
Last Time Out for Fisk: Homecoming at Fisk was spoiled by Morris College as the Bulldogs fell 79-75 at the Henderson A. Johnson Arena. Devyn Payne led the way with 18 points and two steals, while Ethan Jones posted a double-double with 10 points and 19 rebounds. Three separate players grabbed at least ten rebounds.

Boyd's A Bucket: Dedric Boyd's averaging 16.5 points over the first two games, as the Illinois State transfer has proven to be an effective contributor. Boyd leads the team in points, shooting 50% from the field (13-26) and 46.7% from deep (7-15).
 
Nicholson's Net: The UAB transfer, Kassim Nicholson, has grabbed 19 rebounds in two games, compiling a double-double in his TSU debut. Nicholson posted 10 points and 15 rebounds against Alabama A&M (11/9).
 
Led By a Vet: Fisk head coach Kenny Anderson, 14-year NBA veteran, is in his fourth season at the helm for Fisk. Anderson, was the second overall pick by the New Jersey Nets ('91). The Georgia Tech graduate reached the NCAA Final Four in 1990 as a player.
 
Seeking No. 1: The Bulldogs are seeking their first victory of the year as they've began the campaign with a seven-game losing streak. Four of their losses have been by single digits.
