NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's basketball team begins their road trip with a meeting at South Dakota on Sunday afternoon.

The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (1-2, 0-0 OVC) at South Dakota Coyotes (2-1, 0-0 Summit)

Series History: This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

Last Time Out for TSU: Tennessee State clobbered local rival, Fisk University, on Tuesday evening. TSU registered 111 points in the rout as Kassim Nicholson flirted with a double-double, posting 14 points and nine rebounds. All 11 Tigers who made an appearance scored at least four points. TSU had five players with at least 11 points, with UGA transfer Christian Brown posting a game-high 18 points.
 
Last Time Out for USD: South Dakota secured a victory on Friday night, 71-68, over Southern. USD has won 14 of its last 15 home openers dating back to 2007. Xavier Fuller recorded a game-high 20 points while Erik Oliver added 11 points off the bench. The Coyotes went 3-for-15 from three-point range but made the most of their opportunity at the free-throw line, converting on 24-of-33.

Battle of Jefferson St.: The 55-point blowout, 111-56, over Fisk was the second largest victory in the series history. In 1993, TSU defeated Fisk by 91 points, 148-57. The Tigers have scored at least 99 points in the last three meetings against the crosstown rival.
 
What Can "Brown" Do for You? Georgia transfer, Christian Brown, swiped a career-high four steals against Fisk. The 6-6 forward is ranked second on the team in points (37) and steals (4), while he leads the team in free-throws made (10-for-15).

Home Cookin': Dating back to the '19-20 season, the Coyotes are 21-4 in Vermillion, S.D. South Dakota has only lost two games at home in each of the last two years.
 
Core Plus Four: South Dakota returns 11 players from last year's roster, while they welcome four newcomers to the team. Erik Oliver, a transfer from Laramie County CC in Cheyenne, Wyo., is the only non-freshman newcomer.
