Volleyball to Honor Senior Class on Friday

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State University volleyball team takes the court this weekend against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville for the final home series of the year. TSU will honor the senior class on Friday evening with the home finale taking place on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Matchup: TSU Tigers (9-14, 1-13 OVC) v. SIUE Cougars (5-20, 2-12 OVC)
Dates/Times: Friday, November 5, at 6 p.m. || Saturday, November 6, at 2 p.m. 
Location: Kean Hall, Nashville, Tenn.
 
Series History: SIUE leads the series, 6-5. The Cougars are currently on a four-match win streak over the Tigers. On October 5, 2019, the two programs went the distance as three of the five sets came within three points. TSU dominated the net with 10 blocks compared to SIUE's six, while the Cougars totaled six aces.
 
About the Tigers
  • Aniya Williams has played every set this season. The senior transfer leads the team in kills (270), total blocks (92.0) and points (340.0).
  • Aria Holmes, a four-year letter winner, is tied for second on the team with 186 kills.
  • Gina Rivera-Ortiz is the all-time leader in digs (1,812) and has recorded 20+ digs in 12 games. The senior has registered 25 digs in consecutive matches.
  • Sofia Garcia-Guerrios leads the team in assists (629), with 30+ assists in nine matches. However, the junior from Puerto Rico has not eclipsed 21 assists in a match since October 2. 
About the Panthers
  • The Cougars have lost seven straight matches dating back to October 9 against Belmont.
  • In terms of blocks per set, Annie Ellis (1.04) and Jessica Vineyard (0.96) sit in the top 10 in the OVC.
  • Freshman Julia Treichel leads the team with 197 kills.
  • Alyse Drifka has a drastic lead in assists with 525 as the next-best has totaled 201.
  • SIUE has four players with at least 188 digs (Grace Hurst, Nicole Kijowski, Drifka and Treichel).
