Gia Adams led the Lady Tigers with a season-high 21 points, but another slow start hurt Tennessee State in a 74-70 loss to Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at the Gentry Center.
Aside from Adams,
Dominique Claytor (11) and
Alexis Pierce (10) finished in double figures. The Lady Tigers trailed 19-7 after the first quarter and then used the next 25 minutes to battle back before tying the game with 3:22 left in regulation.
The final three minutes of play, saw Kansas City knock down 7-of-8 free throws and Adams had a chance late in the contest but knocked down 2-of-3 from the stripe. Trailing, 74-67, Adams knocked down a triple with five seconds left but not enough time for the last-second comeback.
TSU shot 43 percent from the field, but the Roos outrebounded the Lady Tigers 40-28.
Kansas City was led by Brooklyn McDavid with 16 points. The Roos had four other players in double figures.
The Lady Tigers will hit the road the rest of non-league play with a quick trip to Lipscomb on Wednesday evening before a trip to DeLand, Florida to play in Stetson's tournament.
