12/8/2021 5:19:00 PM

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's basketball team is set to host IUPUI on Friday night, as the Tigers look to snap a four-game losing streak. It's Ugly Sweater Night at the Gentry Center; wear your ugly sweater and the most hideous sweater will win a TSU prize pack.

The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (1-6, 0-0 OVC) vs. IUPUI Jaguars (1-7, 0-2 Horizon)
Date/Time: Friday, December 10 || 6:00 p.m.
Location: Gentry Center || Nashville, Tenn.

Series History: Last season, the first meeting between the two programs took place in Indianapolis, Indiana. IUPUI secured the initial victory in the series in a nail-biter, 69-66. Shakem Johnson and Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. took part in the contest, as they combined for 25 points and 14 rebounds.

Last Time Out for TSU: Tennessee State traveled to Chicago and lost to Chicago State, 59-49. The Tigers were led by UAB transfer, Kassim Nicholson. Nicholson posted a double-double, his third of the year, with 16 points and 12 rebounds. TSU tallied season-lows in turnovers (13), points allowed (59) and three-pointers attempted (11).

Last Time Out for IUPUI: Conference powerhouse, Oakland, entered Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday and defeated IUPUI, 78-45. Graduate transfer, B.J. Maxwell, logged a season-high 19 points in the home loss. The Jaguars committed 23 turnovers which led to 32 points from Oakland. In addition, the Golden Grizzlies out-scored IUPUI 28-7 at the free-throw line.

Nicholson's Niche: The Jackson, Mississippi native has a knack for securing rebounds as he leads the team with 66 rebounds. The graduate transfer ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference in rebounds per game (9.4). Nationally, Nicholson is 30th in the NCAA with 9.4 rebounds per game. He's grabbed at least nine rebounds in five games, including double-digit boards in four of seven.

Purdue "Board"maker: Emmanuel Dowuona has started to find his stride as the Purdue transfer's averaged 5.3 points and 8.3 rebounds over the last three games. Dowuona received his second start of the year at Chicago State. It was his first start since the season-opener against Alabama A&M; but the 6-10 forward made the most of the opportunity, securing nine rebounds in 16 minutes of action on Saturday in Chicago (12/4).

Where's The Bucket?: The Jaguars bring back seven letterwinners from last season, however, IUPUI lost their top three scorers from last season. Among those three players, the Jags lost their all-time leading rebounder, all-time leader in threes made and a two-time All-Horizon guard.

Defensive Clamps: The defense for IUPUI ranks 55th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 61.5 points per game.
