VICKSBURG, Miss. --- The Tennessee State softball team picked up its first win of the season as they split on day one of the River City Classic. The Tigers earned a 10-5 victory over Alcorn State before falling 1-0 to Jackson State.

TSU recorded a hit in all seven innings as they combined for 13 total knocks and added nine walks. Ivory Jones led the way with three hits, including a double, and reached a fourth time via the walk. Anayah Baker, Peyton Fointno, Marisa Mauroschadt and Savanah Wallace each produced a two-hit game.

Mauroschadt was clutch for the Big Blue as she drove in a run in three separate at bats. The first came on a two out single in the opening frame to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The sophomore then drove home a run with a double in the fourth and another off a fielder's choice in the fifth.

The fortunes were reversed in the back end of the double dip as TSU was held to four hits and no walks. The trend from game one looked to continue as Baker led off the game with the first of her two hits. JSU pitcher Macie Kippenbender would then take over as she sat down the next eight batters.

Baker would record the Tigers next hit with two outs in the third and was followed by a Bri Vire single before the threat ended a batter later. Renae Spears would try to spark the Big Blue with a lead off hit in the fourth, but once again Kippenbender had the answer as she retired the final 12 batters she faced.

JSU would get all they would need with a run in the second off starter Raven Loveless. The junior pitcher went the distance and fell to 0-3 after allowing six hits and five walks.

Lauren Powell picked up the win in game one by tossing a complete game. Powell fanned six batters as she scattered six hits and four walks.
