Edwardsville, Ill.  --- The Tennessee State University women's basketball team dropped a, 56-35, decision to SIU Edwardsville Thursday night in the Vadalabene Center. 

TSU struggled early on and played from behind most of the game. The Lady Tigers pulled to within single digits in the opening moments of the second half but couldn't get over the hump.

Andreana Wrister led TSU in scoring with 10 points and was the only TSU player to reach double-digits. Wrister and Jasmine Broner pulled down a team-best six rebounds. 

TSU shot 75 percent from the free-throw line and recorded six steals in the contest. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams played to a 4-4 tie before four unanswered points by SIUE put the Cougars on top, 8-4.
  • Breannah McCullah ended TSU's scoring drought with a short jumper but SIUE answered on the next few possessions and extended the advantage to, 16-7.
  • At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers trailed 18-9.
  • The opponents scored the first five points of the second period and increased the lead to, 23-9. 
  • By the media timeout, TSU had fallen behind 28-13. 
  • Heading into halftime, the score was 30-17 in favor of SIUE.
  • TSU started the third stanza by outscoring SIUE 6-2 and cut the deficit down to single digits. 
  • The Lady Tiger rally stalled and the deficit increased back up to 14 points.
  • SIUE used a 10-0 run in the last 2:35 to make the lead 44-25 heading into the final ten minutes. 
  • TSU started the fourth quarter with six unanswered points to close the gap to 13 points.
  • With six minutes ticked off the clock, TSU had held SIUE to only three points but the Lady Tigers couldn't capitalize.
GAME NOTES
  • Wrister scored in double-digits for the 12thtime this season. 
  • Jaden Wrightsell now has 579 total rebounds and ranks 11thon TSU's all-time leading rebounders list.

  • TSU will continue its road swing with a contest at Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 6. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Lantz Arena.
