NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State dropped both ends of an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field. TSU fell 3-2 in game one against Tennessee Tech and 2-0 in game two.
The Golden Eagles came out strong with two runs in the first inning against Tiger starter
Raven Loveless. TTU continued to put pressure on the junior pitcher, but she would work her way of danger numerous times, surrendering just one run over the final six innings.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth,
Renae Spears would get the Tigers to within one run with a double to left center to drive in
Bri Vire. But the Golden Eagles wasted no time getting the run back with one in the to of the fifth.
Loveless and the defense would keep Tech close giving the offense a chance in its final at bat.
Kayli Mothershed picked up a one out single and was replaced on the base paths by
M'Lei Woodard. Pinch hitter
Kennedy McCurry reached base after getting hit by a pitch, advancing Woodard to second. With two outs,
Anayah Baker-Rowell cued a ball off the end of her bat towards first. The ball forced the first baseman to charge the ball and toss to a vacant bag allowing all Tigers to advance another base.
The Woodard score would get TSU back to within one at 3-2 and runners on second and third with two outs. The Tigers threat came to an end as Vire popped out for the final out.
Game two saw
Lauren Powell give a stellar performance, not allowing an earned run. Tech took advantage of two Tiger errors to push two runs across home plate against Powell. The redshirt senior would give her squad a chance as she scattered six hits on the day.
TSU could not capatilze on a leadoff walk in the sixth or a two-out single in the seventh, as they were swept in the three game series.
GAME 1
Tennessee Tech scored two runs off four hits in the first inning.
TTU loaded the bases in the fourth inning before pitcher
Raven Loveless stranded all three runners.
Bri Vire opened the bottom of the fourth with a single and scored two batters later to cut the lead to 2-1.
Renae Spears drove a double to the base of the fence in left center to Vire to scamper around the bases.
Tech would load the bases again in the fifth with no outs, but Loveless would only allow one run.
The junior pitcher would once again escape a bases loaded jam without surrendering a run in the sixth.
Kayli Mothershed ripped a ball up the middle to get things started with one in the seventh.
Pinch hitter
Kennedy McCurry reached a batter later after being hit by a pitch.

M'Lei Woodard to second.
Two batters later,
Anayah Baker-Rowell hit a soft spinning grounder towards first, forcing the first baseman to move away from her bag to field the ball.
The fielder tossed errantly to an empty base allowing all runners to advance, including Woodard scoring to make the score 3-2.
The game ended with two runners in scoring position as Vire popped out.
GAME 2
Lauren Powell scattered six hits and two walks while tossing a complete game.
Tech would take advantage of two TSU errors to score a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth.
Powell shut down the Golden Eagles over the final two innings giving the offense a chance.
The Tigers were held at bay, managing just three hits on the game.
Two came in the second inning and the final single came in the seventh.

The Tigers will host SIUE for an Ohio Valley Conference three-game series on Friday, Mar.12 and Saturday, Mar. 13. The two teams will play a double header on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. The final game of the series is set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

- The Tigers wore all white on Saturday..
- Anayah Baker-Rowell extended her hit streak to nine games in the opener before going 0-for-2 in the night cap.
- Baker did reach base on a walk to extend her consecutive streak of reaching base to 10.
- Renae Spears ripped a fourth inning double to push her reached base streak to 10, only to see it end in game two.
- Kayli Mothershed used singles during her final at bat in both games to move the Tigers longest current hit streak to six.
- Lauren Powell tossed a complete game increasing her career innings total to 434.3.
- Powell moved into third all time at TSU, passing Amanda Vaught (2007-08) who finished with 432.6.
- The start was the 70th for Powell which ties her with Teresa Onry (1995-98) for third in the TSU record books.
- The redshirt senior also made her 104th appearance in the circle, tying her with Olivia Gamache (2011-14) for third at Tennessee State.
