NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's basketball team set to play two games in three days as they welcome Austin Peay on Saturday and travel to Morehead State on Monday.

Last Time out for TSU: Tennessee State secured their second straight victory at home on Saturday afternoon against Austin Peay, 65-61.
Kassim Nicholson led the way with a game-high 16 points, on 7-of-9 from the field, and eight rebounds.
Shakem Johnson contributed 11 points and six rebounds. TSU shot 50% from the field in each half, as they shot 24-for-48 (50%) for the entire game.
Efficient Shooting: In four of seven OVC games, the Tigers have shot over 49% from the field. As a team, TSU ranks fifth in the OVC with a 46.1% shooting percentage – by a slim margin as Murray State ranks third at 46.6%. Tennessee State leads the league in free-throw percentage (75.6) throughout seven conference games. From three-point range, the Tigers rank third in the conference, shooting 39.5% from deep.
Gentry Center Comfort: At home, TSU is 6-3 on the season. The Tigers are averaging 83.4 points per game in the friendly confines. Tennessee State has scored over 100 points in two games at the Gentry Center (Fisk, Campbellsville-Harrodsburg). TSU's coming off a decisive victory at home over Tennessee Tech, 80-64, on MLK Day (1/17).
Last Time out for APSU: Tariq Silver matched his career- high with 24 points in Austin Peay's first OVC win of the season over UT Martin, 72-57, on Thursday evening. Silver had five rebounds and a team-high six assists in 34 minutes. Elijah Hitchins-Everett scored all of his 16 points in the second half with four rebounds. Austin Peay had five of its 11 players score in the conest.
Series History vs. APSU: This will be the 82nd meeting between the two programs, with Austin Peay holding a 50-31 lead in the all-time season series. The initial meeting occurred during the 1962-63 season with TSU coming away with a 119-94 win over the Govs. The 119 points are the most points score by TSU over Austin Peay. Last season, the Govs took both games during the Covid season defeating TSU 68-59 in Nashville on Dec. 30 and then 71-56 in Clarksville a month later.
Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. scored 13 points in the first meeting but did not play in the second game.
Ravel Moody and
Mark Freeman each had 16 points in the road loss for TSU. For Austin Peay, Terry Taylor averaged 14.5 points in the season series.
Looking Ahead to Morehead State: The Eagles defeated Belmont, 83-74, on Thursday and will face SIUE on Saturday before their rescheduled contest with Tenneesee State on Monday. The Eagles sit in second place of the Ohio Valley Conference with a 5-0 mark. Johni Broome leads the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game. Tray Hollowell reached the 1,000-point plateau against the Bruins and is second in team scoring, averaging 11.8 ppg.
Series History vs. MSU: TSU and Morehead State will meet for the 82nd time on Monday as the Eagles hold a slight advantage in the series, 43-38. On January 15, Morehead State defeated the Tigers, 71-64, at the Gentry Center. Nicholson registered his fifth double-double of the year in the contest, with a career-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. Kenny Cooper filled up the stat sheet with six points, seven assists and a season-high four steals. Last season, MSU swept the series and earned a victory over the Tigers at the Gentry Center, 79-66.
Home Cookin': Morehead State is undefeated (9-0) at the Johnson Arena this season. The Eagles own a 17-game home court winning streak, tied with Kansas for the fourth-longest win streak in the nation. It's the second-longest streak in school history as teams in '09-10 and '10-11 extended their streak to 23 consecutive home victories.
