Volleyball Takes on UT-Martin in Midweek Tilt

NASHVILLE — After dropping two straight this past weekend at Morehead State, the Tennessee State University Volleyball Team look to get back to their winning ways when they take on UT-Martin University this Tuesday This will be the second match between the two schools this season. On September 20, TSU fell 1-3 at Martin in the opening match for the Ohio Valley Conference. The Tigers now look for revenge and to keep their six game winning streak at home intact.
 
In the first match, the Tiger offense was paced by Celestial Miller, who finished with 14 kills on the day. Johanna Alcantara added 12 and Kennedy Davis chipped in with 10 as part of balanced Tennessee State attack. Gina Rivera-Ortiz chipped in 25 digs, along with six blocks from Gabrielle Johnson to lead them defensively.
 
The Skyhawks received double doubles from Kambree Lucas and Haeleigh Paulino. Lucas corralled the first double-double of her young career with 10 kills to go along with a career-best 20 digs. Paulino registered 40 assists and 12 digs

SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • Gabrielle Johnson leads the OVC in kills with 51. She had a double-double the last time out with season highs in blocks (16) and kills (10). Johnson also had her season high in points with 20.5. Johnson was nominated for three player of the week categories this past week. 
  • Carla Boudal leads all servers with 33 aces in overall games.
  • Kennedy Davis still leads the OVC swinging at a .347 percentage in overall games this season.
 
SCOUTING UT-MARTIN
  • Logan Wallick was named Offensive Player of the Week by the OVC. Wallick had 28 kills and swung at a .344 clip for the week. 
  • This past Saturday, Karen Scanlon became only the 10th player in University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball history to record 1,000 career kills.
  • Haeleigh Paulino is second with 11 aces in OVC play.
  • Mia Saenz is second in OVC play in blocks (35) and blocks per set (1.30)
  • UT-Martin is second in OVC play in hitting percentage (.219), assists (329), and kills (376).
 
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Tigers will go back on the road as they travel to St. Charles, Missouri for a weekend series against Lindenwood University.
