SERIES INFORMATION:Â The Tigers and Lions matched up one time back when A&M-Commerce was still called "East Texas State". The Lions made the trip to Nashville on October 4, 1986. TSU came away with a 15-6 victory from Hale Stadium to hold the 1-0 all-time advantage.
Â
SCOUTING TAMUC: Playing their first season as a D1 football program after making the transition from DII, TAMUC has put together a 5-5 record with a 3-3 mark in Southland conference play. The Lions' three D1 wins have come against no. 19 Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese, and Houston Christian. The Lions are averaging 29 points per game while they give up 19.7. Eric Rodriguez commands the Lion offense, as he has passed for 1,523 yards and 16 touchdowns on the season. Andrew Armstrong leads the team with 58 catches for 983 yards and 13 scores. Reggie Branch leads the team in the ground game with 254 yards and three touchdowns.
Â
WEEK 12: BY THE NUMBERS
Â
20: The number of years it has been since TSU has played a team from Texas. TSU last took on a team from the Lone Star State in 2002 against Prairie View A&M. TSU won the matchup 41-8. The Tigers last made a trip to Texas in 1982 as they played Texas Southern. Â TSU and Texas Southern Tied 20-20 in that matchup.
Â
3: The number of schools that TSU has played with the name "Texas" in their name. The Tigers have played Texas College, Texas Southern, and East Texas State. In total, TSU has played four teams from Texas overall, as they also played Bishop College which no longer exists.
Â
2: The number of players that TSU has from Texas.
Maurice McDonald is from Houston, Texas, while
Kaden Truitt hails from the south Texas town of Edinburg.
62: The number of rushing yards
Devon Starling needs to reach 2,000 career yards on the ground. The junior back has tallied 491 yards and a score on the ground this season on 108 attempts. He has also hauled in 14 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown.
Â
TAKE ME TO TEXAS: TSU will make their second farthest road trip of the season as they travel to East Texas to take on TAMUC. The Tigers opened their season with a flight to Washington to take on EWU, and they will now close the season with their second flight of the year.
Â
CAREER DAY: Senior linebacker
Jahsun Bryant saved perhaps his best game in Tiger uniform for his final home game. The 5th-year Tiger and Nashville native notched a career-high 16 tackles, three for loss, one interception, and one forced fumble in last Saturday's loss to UT Martin.
Â
BEHIND THE LINE: Jahsun Bryant was not the only Tiger defender to have a career day against UTM, as defensive lineman
Terrell Allen also had a strong day. Allen recorded a career-high nine tackles, 4.5 of which were for loss and one sack. The Austin Peay transfer leads TSU with 11 tackles for loss, which ranks second in the OVC, to go along with 4.5 sacks on the year.
Â
TOP TIER D: With one game remaining, the TSU defense still sits atop the league in total defense. Defensive coordinator
Brandon Fisher's defensive unit leads the OVC in the fewest number of yards given up (3,598), the least amount of yards per play (5.3), and they also allow the fewest yards per game (359.8). The Tigers rank first in pass defense, as they are the only school to have allowed less than 2,000 passing yards (1,923) while ranking fourth in rush defense.
