SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA --The Tennessee State men's basketball team got a 25-point performance from the bench on the way to a 74-73 victory over the CSU Northridge Matadors at The Pavilion at Jserra Monday in the first game of the SoCal Challenge.
The Tigers (4-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Marcus Fitzgerald Jr., who had 17 points and five assists. Christian Brown tacked on 16 points from the bench and Jr. Clay chipped in as well with 11 points and six assists.
The Tennessee State offense was very productive from three-point land, knocking down eight threes on 23 attempts. Brown was the most prolific shooter for the Tigers, draining three treys in the contest.
How It Happened
TSU held an 11-point lead, 24-13 with 9:38 left to play in the half, but CSUN made a comeback and led 41-40 at the turn.
The Tigers kept the rally going and took the lead for good on Fitzgerald Jr.'s jumper with 00:50 left to grab the 74-73 victory.
