NASHVILLE - David Acosta and Adong Makuoi each recorded double-doubles to help lead the Tennessee State men's basketball team over the Boyce Bulldogs 103-49 at home Tuesday.
The Tigers (5-4) had six players score in double figures, led by Zion Griffin, who had 23 points and two steals. Acosta added a double-double off of the bench with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Jaylen Anglin chipped in as well with 14 points and two steals off of the bench.
Tennessee State shared the ball well in Tuesday's game, racking up 26 assists on 45 made field goals. Individually, Jr. Clay dished out the most for the Tigers with seven assists and Justin Williams also helped out with five assists of his own.
Tennessee State did a great job disrupting Boyce shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Acosta's one rejection led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 31-14 advantage, Tennessee State went on a 10-0 run with 5:56 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Makuoi, to increase its lead to 41-14. The Tigers then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 46-16 advantage. Tennessee State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 40 of its 46 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Tennessee State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 62-28 before going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Griffin's layup, to grow the lead to 73-28 with 12:57 to go in the contest. The Tigers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 103-49 win. Tennessee State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 57 points.
