Men's Basketball Dominates Tennessee Tech

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's basketball team dominated Tennessee Tech on Thursday evening, 92-56.
 
FIRST HALF: The Golden Eagles scored the first points of the game at the free-throw line. Kassim Nicholson responded with a three-pointer to give TSU an early advantage. The Tigers went on a 13-2 scoring stretch to begin the game as Nicholson led the charge with five points. Carlos Marshall Jr. rattled off five consecutive points in the middle of the half. TTU's JR Clay attempted to stop the run with consecutive buckets for Tech. Both programs went scoreless from the field for almost four minutes. Dedric Boyd drained a three-pointer towards the end of the half, but Tech's Clay cashed a layup at the buzzer to trim the deficit. TSU went 5-for-12 from deep in the first half. The Golden Eagles were limited to 27% (8-for-30) shooting from the field. || TSU, 35-23
 
SECOND HALF: TTU's John Pettway recorded the first basket of the half, but Shakem Johnson responded with a layup on the next possession. The Tigers went on a 12-2 scoring stretch with Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. scoring four consecutive. TSU went on another run, 15-5, as Marshall Jr. tallied seven points over the stretch. With seven minutes to go, Tennessee Tech logged seven straight points to cut the deficit to 73-53. With less than four minutes to go, Boyd caught fire with 11 straight points on three long-range jumpers. Monty Johal and Marshall Jr. followed up with three-pointers of their own. The Tigers scored 19 of the final 22 points of the game. Tennessee State shot 62.2% from the field in the second half. || TSU, 92-56
 
INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Carlos Marshall Jr. scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point range.
  • Shakem Johnson flirted with a double-double as he registered 10 points and seven rebounds, along with three assists and a block.

  • TSU held TTU to 33% (21-for-64) from the field.
