OXFORD, MS. – The Tennessee State women's tennis team opened the season on the road at the No. 34 University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) on Friday afternoon. The SEC-foe, UM, defeated the Tigers, 0-7, in a doubleheader at the Galtney Center. TSU and Ole Miss celebrated Black History Month with t-shirts honoring the great Althea Gibson (see picture).
In the doubles competition,
Franka Sindici and
Mckhia McCrary fought to a 6-4 loss on court #2 in the 10:00 a.m. match. The Tigers forfeited the third court in both matches with only five players on the roster. In the 1:00 p.m. doubles pairing,
McCrary and
Daniela Koleva were defeated by Reka Zadori and Lillian Gabrielsen, 6-0.
The 34
th-ranked Rebels swept the singles competition on their home court.
Koleva provided second-set battles on court #2 with a 0-6, 3-6 loss in match one and went unfinished in match two, 0-6, 2-3. In the second match of the day, court #5 did not finish as
Presley Hall in the middle of a second-set nail-biter on court #5 against Eesha Gudiseva, 1-6, 2-3.
UP NEXT: On Sunday (2/27), the Tigers will travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to take on Western Kentucky University at 4:00pm at the Michael O. Buchanon tennis facility.
