Softball Secures Home Victory in Saturday Spilt

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State softball team spilt the conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Austin Peay.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 4TH: Austin Peay jumpstarted the frame with back-to-back singles from Brooke Pfefferle and Kylie Campbell. Kendyl Weinzapfel reached on an error to load the bases. With the bases-juiced, the Governors scored two runs on a throwing error by TSU's third baseman. With runners on second and third, Mea Clark sliced a line drive to right field which was misplayed to score two additional runs. APSU extended the lead on an infield single from Bailey Shorter. || APSU, 5-0
 
BOT 4TH: Anayah Baker and Peyton Fointno led off the inning with consecutive base hits. Fointno advanced to second with a stolen base. With runners on second and third, Maggie Klug placed a groundball in between shortstop and third to score Baker. || APSU, 5-1
 
TOP 5TH: APSU's Campbell singled to center and advanced into scoring position after a single from Weinzapfel. With two outs, the Governors scored on a wild pitch. || APSU, 6-1
 
TOP 6TH: To begin the sixth inning, Austin Peay rattled off three straight hits – including a two-RBI double to center field from Lexi Osowski. || APSU, 8-1
 
BOT 6TH: Jasmine Brown was plunked by a pitch to lead off the stanza. After a walk to Baker, Fointno laced a two-run double to right-center field. || APSU, 8-3
 
BOT 7TH: With one out, Ivory Jones roped a triple to right field and came around to score after the third baseman could not corral the throw. || APSU, 8-4
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Peyton Fointno matched her season high with three hits, while she drove in two runs.
  • Raven Loveless allowed eight runs, only three earned, over six innings.
  • Two players logged three hits apiece for Austin Peay.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Ivory Jones recorded the fifth triple of the season for TSU.
  • The Tigers are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak.

TOP 3RD: With two outs, Lexi Osowski clubbed her 10th home run of the season as she ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference. || APSU, 1-0

BOT 4TH: To lead off the inning, Anayah Baker poked a single to left field. Peyton Fointno reached on a fielder's choice and advanced into scoring position on a single from Ryla Traylor. With two outs, Alyssi Drayton tallied the game-tying RBI base hit to score Fointno as Traylor moved to third base. The Tigers took the lead as Traylor scored on a wild pitch. || TSU, 2-1

BOT 6TH: Fointno led off the frame with a free pass and advanced to third on a single from Maggie Klug. TSU increased the advantage as Fointno scored on a wild pitch. || TSU, 3-1

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Francys King tossed five innings of one-run ball as the right-hander allowed six hits and two walks en route to a victory.
  • Peyton Fointno scored two of the three runs for TSU.
  • Six different players registered a base hit for Tennessee State.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Tigers snapped a nine-game losing streak with the game two victory.
