Women's Basketball Set to Host OVC's League Leader on Thursday

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State women's basketball team is set to return to the Gentry Center tomorrow evening to take on the Ohio Valley Conference league leader in Eastern Illinois. This will be the first matchup between the two schools since TSU upset EIU in the first round of the OVC tournament last season.

The Matchup: Tennessee State (7-10, 2-4 OVC) vs. Eastern Illinois (14-3, 6-0 OVC)

SERIES INFORMATION: This will be the 50th all-time meeting between the Tigers and the Panthers. EIU leads the series 33-16. TSU was able to upset the Panthers in the first round of the 2022 OVC tournament as the Tigers won 72-61. Prior to last March's win, EIU had won five straight over TSU. The Tigers are 4-8 against EIU in the last 12 games played inside the Gentry Center.

SCOUTING EIU: EIU comes into tomorrow's matchup as the OVC's league leader with a 6-0 conference record. The Panthers are 14-3 overall, only losing to Bradley, Minnesota, and Northern Illinois. EIU is averaging 70.4 points per game while giving up 62.2. Lariah Washington leads the team and the OVC in scoring with 19.0 ppg. Macy McGlone leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.4 and is second on the team in scoring with 11.9 ppg.
 
100/100 CLUB: Lyric Cole became the first Lady Tiger to record 100+ points and 100+ rebounds this season. Cole finished with eight points in the loss against TTU last Saturday to give her 106 points on the year. The sophomore transfer from Austin Peay has pulled down 119 boards and is tied on the team with 7.0 boards per outing.
 
100 POINT CLUB: The Tigers now have five players on the team with 100+ points this season, as Ashley Malone and Cole joined it on Saturday against TTU. Malone finished with a season-high 14 points as she matched her season-high in minutes with 19. Erica Haynes-Overton, Gia Adams, Saniah Parker, Cole, and Malone make up TSU's 100-point scorers.
 
SIX IN A ROW: Erica Haynes-Overton finished with 11 points against TTU to push her double-digit scoring streak to six games in a row, all of which have been OVC contests. EHO has finished in double figures 12 times this season. She is averaging 18.5 points per game in those six games.
 
KNOCK EM' DOWN: The Lady Tigers made a season-high 22 free throws in the loss against TTU. TSU attempted 31 shots, one off their season-high of 32 against Wilberforce. TSU leads the OVC in free throws made (259) and free throw attempts (364).
