LITTLE ROCK, ARK. --The Tennessee State volleyball team fell to the Little Rock Trojans 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 19-25, 23-25) Friday at Jack Stephens Center.
The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 2-17 overall and 2-7 in OVC action.
The Tigers were led by a double-double from Celestial Miller, who registered 11 kills and 10 digs on the day. Jayla Holcombe also added 17 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Celianiz Cabranes chipped in for with 21 digs to go with eight blocks from Gabrielle Johnson.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Tigers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-16. Tennessee State trailed by as many as 10 points as Little Rock never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up zero times before the Trojans took control.
SET 2 | Tennessee State fought back from a first-set loss to take set two 25-20, evening the match at one set apiece. The Tigers took control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way. Tennessee State led by as many as eight points at 18-10 before finishing off the set. Tennessee State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Little Rock attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Little Rock attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 3 | Little Rock took a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Tigers in the third set. The Tigers dropped the set 25-19 despite a strong showing on the attacking side. Tennessee State put together a .333 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set loss.
SET 4 | Tennessee State then lost the fourth set 25-23 to finish off the match. The Tigers fought back from an eight-point deficit at 13-5, but it wasn't enough as Little Rock held on to win the set.
