Five Tigers Score in Double Figures in MBB's 91-75 Loss to UT Martin

NASHVILLE - Five Tigers put up double-digit points, but Tennessee State fell to the UT Martin Skyhawks 91-75 at home Thursday.

The Tigers (7-7, 0-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Michael Shanks, who had 20 points and six rebounds. Jason Jitoboh tacked on 11 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks and Ej Bellinger helped out with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Tennessee State offense made hay from beyond the arc, knocking down 10 threes on 36 attempts. Shanks hit three treys for the Tigers in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 50-36, Tennessee State went on an 8-0 run with 2:38 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Jaylen Jones, to narrow its deficit to 50-44. UT Martin answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Tigers down 53-46 entering halftime.

UT Martin kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 73-62 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Shanks' three, to shrink the deficit to 73-67 with 7:18 to go in the contest. UT Martin responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 91-75. Tennessee State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 29 points.
