NASHVILLE, Tenn. --Tennessee State pitchers surrendered only two runs, one unearned, but the Tigers could not muster the offense to take advantage, losing to the UAB Blazers by the score of 2-1 on Wednesday.
Freshman Holly Ayala (3-3) got the ball to start for Tennessee State (12-11-1) and pitched three innings and gave up one run.. Sophomore Caitlyn Manus (9-8) took the hard-luck loss out of the bullpen throwing four innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits, with two walks and one strikeout.
Freshman Onnika Spencer led the Tigers offensively, going 1-for-3 with the lone RBI in the ballgame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they put their lone run on the board. Tennessee State got an RBI single from Spencer, scoring junior Peyton Fointno, who got on base with TSU's first hit.   UAB scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead they didn't relinquish.Â
