OXFORD, AL --The Tennessee State Tigers had a tough showing in their second game of the Ohio Valley Conference, falling to the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 9-1. The game was stopped yesterday due to a rain and lightning delay, with USI 8-1 in the top of the sixth inning. USI scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to win the run rule. Junior Anayah Baker-Rowell led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk, and scoring a run. Freshman Holly Ayala (6-12) got the ball to start for Tennessee State (22-25-1) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Baker-Rowell led off the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by graduate student Nahtali Simpson. The Tigers could not hold the lead, as Southern Indiana got a two-run home run by Allie Goodin in the bottom of the inning. USI scored two more in the second to chase Ayala. They tacked on four runs in the fifth and a lone run in the sixth to close out the game. Â

» Tennessee State pitchers faced 32 Southern Indiana hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and ten fly balls while striking out two.
» Baker led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a triple.
