Women's Basketball has Two Players and Two Coaches Honored on OVC 75th Anniversary Team

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee State women's basketball program proudly announced that two former players and two coaches have been selected to the Ohio Valley Conference's 75th Anniversary Team, as revealed by the league on Monday.
 
Among the honorees are former players Kendra Appling (2005-09) and Brianna Lawrence (2012-16), while Larry Joe Inman (2012-17) and Teresa Lawrence Phillips (1989-00) were recognized for their notable coaching careers.
 
In a statement, the OVC committee expressed its aim to commemorate the league's remarkable achievements by recognizing the "best-of-the-best" athletes in each sport and celebrating their contributions to OVC history through the creation of the 75th Anniversary Teams.
 
#5 Kendra Appling (2005-2009)

Kendra Appling, wearing jersey number 5 during her tenure at Tennessee State, showcased her skills as a four-year starter for the Lady Tigers. Appling's impressive record includes 116 games played, two All-OVC first-team selections, and the OVC Defensive Player of the Year title in her senior year.
 
She ranks fourth in TSU's all-time career points with 1,595, holds the record for the most attempted field goals at 1,518, and ranks third with 600 made shots. Additionally, she secured the second spot in career steals with 255 and sixth in assists with 331.
 
Appling's outstanding performance reached its pinnacle when she scored an astounding 50 points in a single game, falling just short of the all-time record.

#20 Brianna Lawrence (2012-2016) 

Brianna Lawrence, who donned jersey number 20, left a lasting impact during her four-year career at Tennessee State. The Conyers, Georgia native played in 116 games, contributing to the Lady Tigers' success in winning the OVC Tournament Championship and earning an NCAA Tournament berth in her junior season.

Lawrence recorded 901 career points, along with 422 rebounds, 174 steals, and 106 assists. Notably, she averaged 12.0 points per game and 5.17 rebounds in her senior year, registering 19 double-figure scoring games and three 20+ point performances.
 
Lawrence received recognition as the OVC Tournament MVP in 2015 and was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team.

Teresa Lawrence Phillips | 1989-00

From 1989 to 2000, Teresa Lawrence Phillips served as the head women's basketball coach at Tennessee State, leaving an indelible mark on the program. Under her leadership, the Lady Tigers achieved several firsts, including the program's inaugural OVC regular-season championship, OVC Tournament Championship, and their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament during the 1993-1994 season.
 
Phillips continued to lead the team to further success in the 1994-1995 season, securing another OVC Regular Season Championship and Tournament Championship. She continued coaching through the 1999-00 season before taking over as the Athletic Director at TSU.
 
Larry Joe Inman | 2012-17
 
Larry Joe Inman, serving as TSU's head coach from 2012 to 2017, achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball history.
 
In just his third season at the helm, he guided the Lady Tigers to an OVC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
 
Inman's coaching career also includes successful stints at Eastern Kentucky, where he led the team to two OVC Tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament berths, and Middle Tennessee, where he earned an overall record of 161-73. Throughout his illustrious career, Inman amassed 11 OVC Regular Season Championships and seven OVC Tournament Titles.

The inclusion of these former players and coaches on the OVC 75th Anniversary Team serves as a testament to their outstanding contributions to the sport and their lasting impact on the Tennessee State women's basketball program.
