Volleyball Falls to Lipscomb

NASHVILLE --The Tennessee State Tiger volleyball team fell to the Lipscomb Bisons in straight sets (10-25, 19-25, 14-25) in the final game of the LUV Invitational. The loss dropped TSU to 0-4 on the season. Aleksandra Rojecka led the way offensively with seven kills. Alondrah Santana-Rodriguez finished five kills on the day to lead the team in hitting percentage at .333. Celianiz Cabranes to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Tigers found themselves in an early deficit, dropping the first set 25-10. TSU trailed by as many as 15 points as Lipscomb never gave up the lead in a set that was knotted up just once before the Bisons took control. The Bisons started the set scoring eight of the first ten points., capitalizing on the Tigers -.400 hitting percentage. Lipscomb kept the pressure on, going up 18-7 before the second Tiger timeout. The Bisons were sharp on offense, swinging at a .643 clip at the juncture. Rojecka led the Tigers with four kills in the set and a .333 hitting percentage. 

SET 2 | TSU played their best set of the match but eventually fell in the second set 25-19 to fall behind two sets to none. The Tigers fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set. The Bisons took over early in the set, going on a 10-1 run after the set was tied at four. The Tigers crept back in the set on a Satana-Rodriguez kill to make the score 16-12. Nicole Taylor's kill made the score 17-15, forcing Lipscomb to use a time-out. The momentum switched back to Lipscomb as they closed that match on an 8-4 run, 

SET 3 | Tennessee State could not win set three and was swept by Lipscomb. The Tigers dropped the final set 25-14. TSU took a 3-1 lead on a service ace by Jadyn Webb. Tennessee State trailed by as many as 11 points as Lipscomb grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Bisons took over the lead. The Bisons then went on a 9-1 run from which TSU could not climb back. 

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, for three games starting this Friday in the Utah Tournament.
