NASHVILLE, TN --The Tennessee State volleyball team lost Friday as the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles posted a 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 18-25) win at home at the Kean Hall Gymnasium. The loss dropped TSU's record to 2-11 overall and 2-1 in OVC action.
Jayla Holcombe finished with 15 kills on the day to lead the Tigers' attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .303. On defense, TSU got 21 digs from Celianiz Cabranes, six blocks from Gabrielle Johnson, and five rejections from Celestial Miller.

How It Happened
SET 1 | 18-25 Errors Hurt Tigers in Opening Set
The Tigers found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-18. After starting the match up 7-4, Tennessee State trailed by as many as seven points as Southern Indiana grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11. The set was tied up six times before the Screaming Eagles took control. The Tigers tied the game at 16 on two consecutive kills by Miller. USI went up 18-21, forcing TSU to call a timeout. The Tigers had four receiving errors, five attack errors, and three service errors in the set. USI also held a 5-0 advantage in service aces.Â
SET 2 | 25-23 Late Runs Fuels Tigwers to Set Win
The Tigers responded to pick up a 25-23 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. TSUÂ persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 14 times. Neither team led by more than two points along the way. Tennessee State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Southern Indiana attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Southern Indiana attacking errors on the way to victory. Down 18-19, The Tigers went on a 3-0 run and never looked back. Holcombe had five kills in the set, with four coming late.Â
SET 3 | 15-25 More Errors Doom TSU
Southern Indiana grabbed a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Tigers in the third set. TSUÂ fell in a tough set 25-15. Tennessee State trailed by as many as 10 points as Southern Indiana grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set tied up five times before the Screaming Eagles took over the lead. TSU had nine attack errors and five service errors in the set. They also had a -.032 hitting percentage.Â
SET 4 | 18-25 Quick Spurts Hurt TSU in Final Set
TSU then dropped the fourth set, 25-18, to finish the match. The Tigers trailed by as many as seven points as Southern Indiana grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9. Tennessee State couldn't recover in a set that was knotted up three times before the Screaming Eagles took over. With the score tied at 11, USI scored four of the following five points to take the lead at the media break. A 3-0 run forced TSU to call timeout. The run turned into 5-1, forcing another timeout with USI up 22-16.Â
The Tigers will try to get their first home win of the season when they take on USI on Saturday at 2 p.m.Â
