St. Andre Scores 37 as WBB Falls to Tennessee Tech 86-81

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee State women's basketball team shot 54.5 percent from deep, but fell to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 86-81 at home Thursday.

The Tigers (5-11, 2-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Sanaa' St. Andre, who had a career-high 37 points, four assists and two steals. Saniah Parker added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks and Aaniya Webb added eight points.

Tennessee State utilized great ball movement in Thursday's game, piling up 20 assists on 31 made field goals. Individually, Caitlin Anderson led the way for the Tigers with seven assists.

Tennessee State forced 19 Tennessee Tech turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Thursday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 19 points on the offensive end of the floor. St. Andre's two steals led the way for Tennessee State.

How It Happened

After falling behind 14-8, Tennessee State went on an 8-0 run with 2:36 left in the first quarter to take a 16-14 lead. Tennessee Tech then responded to tie things up at 16-16 heading into the second quarter. Tennessee State capitalized on five Tennessee Tech turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.

The Golden Eagles then took control in the second quarter and the Tigers entered haltime behind 44-38.

Tennessee Tech continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 63-44 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 63-50 with 4:45 to go in the third. The Tigers continued to reduce the Tennessee Tech lead, shrinking it to 73-64 by the end of the third quarter. Tennessee State played well near the basket, scoring 18 of its 26 points in the paint.

Tennessee State narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 86-81. Tennessee State took advantage of five Tennessee Tech turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of those takeaways.
