MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Tennessee State women's basketball team had 12 fewer turnovers than Morehead State, but fell 86-78 to the Eagles on the road Saturday.
The Tigers (4-10, 1-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Sanaa' St. Andre, who had 23 points and five steals. Saniah Parker added 15 points and two steals and Caitlin Anderson added nine points and five assists.
The Tennessee State offense was very productive from beyond the arc, making nine threes on 28 attempts. Parker was the most prolific shooter for the Tigers, draining three treys in the contest.
Tennessee State forced 27 Morehead State turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Saturday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 25 points on the other end of the floor. St. Andre's five steals led the way for Tennessee State.
How It Happened
Tennessee State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Morehead State kept adding to that lead, building a 35-23 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 5-0 run to narrow its deficit to 35-28. Morehead State responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Tigers trailing 42-34 heading into halftime.
Tennessee State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Tigers faced a 61-45 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Tennessee State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.
Tennessee State kept the Eagles from increasing their lead before going on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 74-65 with 2:37 to go in the contest. The Tigers kept their comeback going, but Morehead State managed to hold on for the 86-78 win. Tennessee State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 33 points.
