NASHVILLE — Maggie Keenan totaled 11 kills with a .647 attack percentage, but the Tennessee State volleyball team fell in five sets (25-22, 14-25, 19-25, 25-23, 9-15) to UT Martin Saturday at home at Kean Hall Gymnasium.
The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 6-19 overall and 2-10 in OVC action.
The Lady Tigers attack was paced by Jayla Holcombe, who finished with 24 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .37, and by Keenan, who had 11 while hitting .647. got 22 digs from Hadley Pride along with eight blocks from Storm White and five rejections from Keenan to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Tigers took set one 25-22 powered by a solid showing on the attacking side. Tennessee State put together a .481 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set victory. The Tigers opened up a 20-15 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 2 | Tennessee State then dropped the second set 25-14, evening the match at a set apiece. The Tigers lost set two in spite of a solid performance on the attacking end. Tennessee State registered a .304 attack percentage with 10 kills in the set loss.
SET 3 | Tennessee State then dropped their second set in a row, falling behind in the match two sets to one. The Tigers couldn't survive a ferocious UT Martin rally, losing 25-19 after leading by seven points at 9-2 earlier in the set.
SET 4 | Tennessee State broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 25-23 victory in set number four. A solid showing on the attacking end led the Tigers to victory in the set. Tennessee State put together a .471 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. The Tigers opened up a 21-16 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Tennessee State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five UT Martin attacks in the stanza.
SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Tennessee State won set four, tying things up at 2-2 to force a fifth set, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing the set 15-9 and the match 3-2. The Lady Tigers fell behind by as many as six points before losing the fifth set.
