CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Tennessee State volleyball team lost the opening round of the OVC Tournament to top-seeded and host SEMO 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25) on Sunday afternoon at Houck Field House.
The Lady Tigers were led by a double-double from Jayla Holcombe, who registered 16 kills and 11 digs on the day. Celestial Miller also added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Hadley Pride chipped in for with 23 digs to go with six blocks from Storm White.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Tigers found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-21. Southeast Missouri State grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up just once before the Redhawks took control.
SET 2 | Tennessee State evened the match at 1-1 following a 25-16 victory in set two. The Lady Tigers grabbed control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and never trailed. Tennessee State led by as many as nine points at 24-15 before finishing off the set. Tennessee State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Southeast Missouri State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Southeast Missouri State responded to win set number three, putting Tennessee State in a two sets to one hole. The Lady Tigers fell in the third set 25-23. Southeast Missouri State grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Redhawks took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Tennessee State then lost the fourth set 25-19 to finish off the match. The Lady Tigers trailed by as many as six points as Southeast Missouri State grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 and Tennessee State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up five times before the Redhawks took over in the second half of the stanza.
