NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Two Indiana State pitchers combined to throw a shutout on Friday as the Sycamores defeated the Tennessee State softball team 2-0 in its home opener. The Tigers were scheduled to play two games in today's Roar City Invitational tournament, but could not get their second game in due to evening thunderstorms.Â
Holly Ayala (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (1-4). Caitlyn Manus was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going four shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out two.
Offensively, the Tigers were paced by Mikayla Duke, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Tigers last got a runner on third in the fifth, when Duke made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
