Softball Tripped up by UT Martin in Series Finale

NASHVILLE - An explosive offensive output was not enough for Tennessee State on Saturday. The Tigers tallied five runs, but could not hold the UT Martin Skyhawks at bay, and were defeated 10-5.

Caitlyn Manus (8-7) took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (16-16, 7-5). Reina Castillo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out four.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Alexis Woods, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI, and Mikayla Duke who put together a standout day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Onnika Spencer also helped out for TSU, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Tennessee State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run double off the bat of Woods.

The Tigers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Skyhawks cut it to 4-3. Spencer came across to score the lone run of the inning, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Tigers. The Tigers were unable to hold the lead, as UT Martin scored seven times over the remaining four innings to grab the 10-5 win.
