NASHVILLE - Junior Caitlyn Manus had everything working on Tuesday, fanning nine Chattanooga hitters over nine innings of work, but it was not enough as the Tennessee State Tigers fell to the Mocs 4-3 in extra innings.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, Manus (10-10) tossed nine innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and walking four for Tennessee State (24-19).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers were trailing 3-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Tennessee State got an RBI single from senior Laila Armstrong, scoring senior Peyton Fointno from second base.
The Tigers kept the deficit at 3-1 before tying the score in the seventh. Tennessee State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by senior Nahtali Simpson's bunt single, which evened the score at 3-3. Chattanooga then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 4-3 win.
