NASHVILLE - Tennessee State men's basketball and head coach Brian "Penny" Collins have bolstered their roster with the signing of Travis "Deuce" Harper II, a standout guard from DII Clayton State University. Harper brings an impressive collegiate resume to the Tigers, showcasing his skills and leadership on the court throughout his career.

"Deuce comes in with two years of experience on the collegiate level," said Coach Collins. "He is beyond ready to contribute right away. He has the ability to score on all three levels and defend multiple positions. We love that he is a proven college basketball player."

During the 2023-24 season at Clayton State, Harper made a significant impact, appearing in 27 games and earning 26 starts. He emerged as a key contributor for the Lakers, leading the team with an average of 17.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. Harper's stellar performance included breaking the single-season school record with 163 defensive rebounds and tallying 465 total points, the highest by a Laker since the 2014-15 season. He also demonstrated efficiency from the free-throw line, shooting an impressive 84%, ranking sixth best in school history.

Harper's versatility was evident throughout the season, as he recorded double-digit scoring totals in 26 of the 27 games played, including eight games with 20 or 30+ scoring efforts. He led the team in several statistical categories, including field goals made, three-pointers made, and steals. Harper also showcased his ability to contribute on both ends of the floor, notching five double-doubles and five games with double-figure rebound totals.

In the 2022-23 season, Harper continued to make an impact for Clayton State, playing in all 28 games and making 23 starts. He averaged 9.1 points per game and scored a total of 257 points while also contributing defensively with 117 total rebounds. Harper displayed his scoring prowess with multiple double-digit scoring performances and a career-high 25 points against Tusculum. Additionally, he showcased his defensive skills, leading the team with 22 steals.

Before his collegiate career, Harper distinguished himself at St. Anne-Pacelli High School, earning numerous accolades, including First-Team All-State honors as a senior and being named the 4-A Private Region Player of the Year.
