PEORIA, Ill. - Laila Armstrong totaled three hits, but the No. 3 seeded Tennessee State Tigers fell to the No. 2 Southeast Missouri State Redhawks 9-2 Thursday morning in the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
Caitlyn Manus started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State.
Armstrong's three-hit day led the Tigers offensively. Rylie Giddens put together a standout performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. Onnika Spencer also chipped in for Tennessee State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Tennessee State got an RBI single from Spencer, scoring Armstrong from second base.
The Tigers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 3-1. A. Baker-Row came across to score the lone run of the inning for Tennessee State, which tightened the Redhawks lead to 3-2. The Tigers weren't able pul any closer, as Southeast Missouri State added six runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
