NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-11, 25-17) ver over UT Southern on Tuesday evening at Kean Gym.
The non-conference victory improved Tennessee State's overall record to 4-6 on the season.
Jayla Holcombe finished with 13 kills and reached the 1,000-mark while finishing with a hitting percentage of .600. The Tigers got 12 digs from Delaney Sheridan to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Tigers grabbed control of the set-one lead at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-19. Tennessee State led by seven points at 20-13 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills while only notching two attack errors in the set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Tennessee State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-11 victory in set number two. The Lady Tigers scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Tennessee State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 14 points, to finish off the set. The Tennessee State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Tennessee State took set three to earn a victory by sweep. The Lady Tigers grabbed control of the set early when the score was 5-4 and never looked back to win 25-17. Tennessee State led by 11 points at 20-9 before finishing off the stanza. The Tennessee State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
