Volleyball Drops Heartbreaking Five Setter to Tennessee Tech

NASHVILLE —The Tennessee State volleyball team lost in five sets (25-23, 18-25, 25-22, 11-25, 13-15) to the Tennessee Tech on Friday evening at Kean Gym.

The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in OVC play.

The Tigers were led by a double-double from Celestial Miller, who registered 10 kills and 11 digs on the day. Alizaysha Sopi also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Hadley Pride chipped in for with 23 digs to go with 14 blocks from Storm White.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Tigers endured a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured nine lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match. Tennessee State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Tennessee Tech attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Tennessee State then lost set two 25-18, evening things at a set each. Tennessee State trailed by as many as seven points as Tennessee Tech grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Golden Eagles took over the lead.

SET 3 | Tennessee State then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Tigers persevered in a back-and-forth set to win 25-22 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way. Tennessee State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Tennessee Tech attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 12 Tennessee Tech attacking errors on the way to victory.

SET 4 | Tennessee State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Golden Eagles forced a fifth set with a 25-11 victory. The Tigers trailed by as many as 14 points as Tennessee Tech grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 and Tennessee State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up three times before the Golden Eagles took over.

SET 5 | Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Golden Eagles took the last two sets, including winning the fifth set 15-13, and the match. The Lady Tigers fell in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than two points in the set.
