Men's Basketball Falls 67-65 to Southeast Missouri State

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State men's basketball team got a career-best 17 points from Josh Ogundele but fell 67-65 to the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at the Gentry Thursday.

The Tigers (4-10, 0-3 OVC) had two players score in double figures, led by Ogundele. Brandon Weston tacked on 10 points and Aaron Nkrumah added seven points, seven rebounds and two blocks. The Tigers also got a 33-point showing from the bench,

Tennessee State out-rebounded Southeast Missouri State 38-33 in Thursday's game, led by Nkrumah's seven boards.

The Tennessee State defense caused its share of mistakes in Thursday's game, forcing 14 Southeast Missouri State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Justus Jackson led the way individually for the Tigers with two steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 12-3, Tennessee State went on a 9-0 run with 15:38 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Nkrumah, to tie the game at 12. Southeast Missouri State then pulled ahead, sending the Tigers into halftime down 31-27.

Tennessee State narrowed its deficit to 42-41 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Nkrumah's jumper, to seize a 47-42 lead with 12:42 to go in the contest. Southeast Missouri State re-asserted control, outscoring the Tigers 25-18 the rest of the way to hand Tennessee State the 67-65 loss. Tennessee State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 38 points in the lane.
