BRENTWOOD, TENN. – With the 2025-26 season on the horizon, the Tennessee State women's basketball team enters the new campaign looking to build momentum under head coach Candice Dupree. The Ohio Valley Conference released its annual preseason poll this week, and the Lady Tigers will look to outperform expectations after being picked eighth by league coaches and communications directors.

While Lindenwood was selected as the preseason favorite with 179 total points and six first-place votes, and Tennessee Tech close behind with 175 points and 12 first-place nods, the Lady Tigers are determined to climb the standings and make noise throughout the OVC slate.

The Lady Tigers return a solid core from last year's group, blending experienced leadership with a talented crop of newcomers. In her second season at the helm, Dupree continues to emphasize defensive intensity, rebounding, and pace — hallmarks of her playing career and coaching philosophy.

After a strong offseason, TSU's depth across multiple positions could prove valuable as the season progresses. With improved chemistry and an understanding of Dupree's system, the Tigers will look to translate growth into results and establish themselves among the league's most competitive teams.

Player to Watch: Somah Kamara

Sophomore guard Somah Kamara earned a spot on the 2025-26 OVC Preseason Watch List, highlighting her as one of the conference's emerging talents. Kamara made an immediate impact as a freshman with her quickness, vision, and defensive energy, and she is expected to take on a larger role this season as a floor leader.

Her ability to attack the lane, create space for teammates, and set the tone on both ends of the floor will be key to TSU's success. As the Lady Tigers continue their growth under Dupree, Kamara's development could be a driving force in the team's rise up the OVC standings.

Tennessee State open their 2025-26 season on Monday, November 3, as they head to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee. With renewed confidence and a clear direction under Coach Dupree, Tennessee State will look to set the tone early and make its mark throughout the season.
