NASHVILLE — Tennessee State linebacker Micah Gay has been named the OVC–Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Gay, a redshirt junior from Atlanta, Georgia, anchored a dominant Tiger defense that limited Howard to just 183 total yards (3.1 yards per play) in TSU's 24-7 Homecoming victory, snapping a five-game losing streak.

Gay posted a game-high 11 tackles — including four solo stops — while adding a quarterback hurry and two interceptions. His first pick came in the second quarter and set up a TSU touchdown that gave the Tigers a 14-7 halftime lead. He sealed the win with a second interception in the fourth quarter, helping the Big Blue hold off the Bison down the stretch.

Through seven games this season, Gay has totaled 31 tackles (19 solo, 12 assisted), along with 2.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
