Volleyball Falls to EIU

NASHVILLE — Tennessee State volleyball battled in front of its home crowd at Kean Hall on Saturday afternoon but fell in four sets (15-25, 28-26, 15-25, 13-25) to Eastern Illinois in Ohio Valley Conference play.

The Lady Tigers (1-28, 0-16 OVC) showed fight throughout, rallying in the second set to even the match behind standout play from senior middle blocker Maygan Miller-Garcia, who delivered one of her strongest performances of the season. Miller-Garcia finished with a team-high 15 kills on a .400 hitting percentage and added seven total blocks and two aces to lead Tennessee State on both ends of the floor.

Defensively, TSU had three players in double figures for digs — Sydni Poston (12), Erini Bitsaktsi (11), and Italya Carter (10) — as the back row held strong through long rallies. Sagaia Reilly tallied 18 assists and five digs while also chipping in five kills from the setter position, and Gabriella Blevins recorded five blocks at the net.

Tennessee State found its rhythm in the second set, outlasting the Panthers 28-26 behind six blocks and strong net play that forced 10 Eastern Illinois attack errors. The Tigers' front-line defense and serving pressure swung momentum their way, highlighted by key kills from Miller-Garcia and Aliyah Harris down the stretch.

However, Eastern Illinois' efficient hitting in sets three and four helped the visitors close out the match. The Panthers hit .306 as a team, while TSU totaled 14 team blocks and 52 digs in the effort.
